The duties include: Improving Student Academic Performance to enable them to consistently produce superior academic results as reflected on standardized tests. The Principal directly manages the resources that generate the results that are reflected in student academic performance. Developing an Appropriate Curriculum to meet the needs of the student population in accordance with goals set for the Chavez system as a whole. Analyzing Assessment Results to Identify Areas in Need of Improvement in order to develop and implement corrective actions in instructional methods, materials and/or teaching personnel. Hiring and Managing the Vice Principals, Department Chairs/Mentor Teachers, and Grade Level Leaders that produce superior academic results for the school. Implementing and Monitoring Chavez collaborative professional development programs for teachers as well as guidelines on instructional methods and lesson planning that reflect the work of such collaborative efforts. Ensuring a Safe and Orderly Environment where teachers can teach and students can learn through local implementation of Chavez System-wide disciplinary policies and practices. Developing Outreach Programs to ensure that parents and the community become involved with the school and develop a sense of ownership for the teaching and learning that take place there. Qualifications for this position include a Master’s degree in Administration or related field, seven years classroom teaching experience, a minimum of four years as a Vice Principal, and three years a Principal preferred. Educational experience at the middle school level required. Experience as an educator in an urban setting with an underserved student population desired. The first Cщsar Chсvez Public Charter School was founded in 1998 in response to lagging academic performance and exceedingly low high school graduation and college matriculation rates among District of Columbia public school students, especially among minority and low-income students. Founder Irasema Salcido wanted to provide inner-city students with a rigorous, high-quality education that would prepare them for college and inspire them to civic engagement. The founding Chсvez School quickly earned a strong reputation for its rigorous academic curriculum, unique public policy program, top-notch faculty, and comprehensive student support services, which together have ensured that 100% of graduating Chсvez seniors have been accepted into at least one college or university.
